Next installment in the Epic of Silas

Well, this will be quick although there is a lot to say. I’ll give the highlights and then ‘flesh it out’ later.

1. Showed up at the passport place this morning at 8:30 am (about 90 degrees) and were told all the paperwork is in, but the chances of seeing the ONLY PERSON IN BURKINA (we’ll call him OPIB) who can sign for Silas’ passport is at a seminar. All day.

Us: “But it’s urgent!”

Them: “Go suck an egg.”

Silas #4 - PRAY!!

Well, we have deposited all the necessary paperwork for Silas’ passport (I think).  So they will have 2 days to do what they normally do in 3 weeks.  In other words, we need a miracle!!  This problem would normally be resolved by passing some greenbacks under the table, but we are trusting in God instead.

Would you continue to pray?  We are believing God to glorify His name through this.  Everytime I hear myself saying “this is impossible”, I tell myself “all things are possible to him who believes”.

I will have to share the whole story soon.  Right now, it’s a little to ‘in my face’ to give the story with any real perceptive.

Please pray for supernatural favor with the passport people.
Pray also that there would be NO MORE hold-ups.

Thank you!

Kate’s Video

This is the video Heidi and I made for Kate, the English missionary here with us. She leads an awesome ministry to the Muslim beggar boys here in Ouagadougou. The quality isn’t the best, but it gives you a good idea of what she does.

Enjoy!

Medical Outreach

We were priveledged  to be a part of an awesome outreach today.  One of our good friends who is a Belgian medical Doctor had planned a mobile clinic and invited us to come and do the evangelism.  So we gathered the “Give a Kid a Christmas” team and got all our equipment loaded up in ‘Old Blue’ (our truck).

We showed up at a elementary school in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Ouagadougou (the capital here in Burkina) and Dr Peter unloaded all his medical supplies into the preschool room while we setup our stage and our speakers.  At about 10:00 we started up the social drama we made up for the “Give a Kid a Christmas” outreaches (I’ll try to get some pictures posted soon) which teaches about properly washing and using mosquito nets.  The kids had a GREAT time!

Meanwhile Dr Peter and his crew were giving urine tests, eye tests, ear, throat and tooth exams and weight.  Each kid was tested (the biggest problems were cavities, blocked ears and being underweight).  What a blessing for these poor kids who have no doctors anywhere available to them!

We then performed the drama about the life of Jesus and Joseph shared the Gospel message and 15 childrens raise their hands and were introduced to a Christian teacher at the school.

Sorry if this post seems a bit dispassionate - it was amazingly hot and humid (110 degrees +) so I’m exhausted.

But I was so excited about this outreach - I really see the power of combining medical outreaches with evangelism.  We will definintly do more of this.

Silas Update

Well, Silas is (and forever shall be) a Hayslip, and he’s growing fast.  He will be at the perfect age as we travel the  States. :  12 months.  Old enough to play with, but small enough to still be a ‘cute little Baby’.    The only piece of this very intricate puzzle still missing is his passport.

Would you guys continue to pray with us?  It is getting REALLY tight (only 22 more days)  and we still  need  his passport and his visa.

The whole process has been fingernails on a chalkboard maddening although most everyone has been very kind (just not always efficient)

Thank you for your prayers.
