Gonna Be Busy!

It’s going to be a busy weekend! (Check out the Calendar.) Here are the things we’ve got goin on:

  1. Thursday and Friday (7-10:30 am) We will be helping the youthgroup with some outreaches here in Ouagadougou.  Heidi did a fantastic job teaching them our “Jesus Skit” (Check out the video of it).  The youthgroup (ex-pat kids here in Burkina) raised $20,000+ to help a ministry here that does food distributions.  Heidi and I will help them perform and share the Gospel
  2. Friday, Monday and Tuesday (7am - 3pm)  Dr Peter is giving physicals to about 500 kids here in Ouagadougou! (check out a report on a previous one)  We generally help out by doing social and evangelistic outreaches, but it’s going to be hard this time - we REALLY need an evangelism team that go out even when Joseph and I are swamped…
  3. Saturday, Sunday (3pm - 9 pm)  Soccer Evangelism at a field near Joseph’s house.  Neighborhood teams, church teams and even the “Kids of Hope” garibou team are all competing for the trophy.  During the matches, the Gospel is shared, and at the trophy ceremony (Heidi is going to make a soccer cake for the winners), we will show the “Godman” video, give out Book of Hope books, Joseph will have a live concert, and we will share the Gospel.  Fun!!
  4. Saturday (10:30 am) Silas’ 2nd birthday!  Yahoo!
  5. Sunday (10:30) Heidi and I lead worship at the “International Bible Fellowship”.
  6. Sunday (6 pm) - One Week  This is the one I am most excited about!!  We are welcoming 12 children pastors from 4 different regions of Burkina Faso. These are the leaders from the areas we have already trained, and they are coming to get advanced training, and to talk about a new followup program.  I promise that there will be much more info about this!
Be praying with us - this will be a fun but busy weekend.

Workin 9 to 5?

Hardly!!  I have been so frustrated with my inability to work (I feel a bit like the dude in the picture…).  Why can’t I work?  Things are stacked against me:

1.  Power cuts from 9 am to 1 pm every day!!  Maddening!  Not only are the computers useless, but the fans don’t work.  At about 9:01, we start sweating profusely - it’s still around 100 degrees everyday, so writing on paper just leaves a soggy page, illegible later.  So what do I do?  During the 1st couple of days, I played cribbage with a friend, but once I realized that this is an everyday occurrence, I evacuate the house and try to get some chores done.

2.  Jakob gets home at 1:45 pm - I help him with his homework till about 3:00pm.  He now does this without sucking!!!  Yay!

3.  Silas wakes up from his nap at 3:00.  I attempt working from 3:00 - 5:00 with very frequent interruptions.  Very cute, but very persistent interruptions: Jakob: “Can I play the Wii?”, “I’m bored”, “I’m hungry”; Silas: “Habla blinka bloop” as he climbs into my lap. “Twinke Dong dong da” as he grabs my mouse and bangs me on the head with it.  Working out of our bedroom is probably not ideal.

Working 9-5?  Not a chance!  More like: Working 8:30 pm - 12:30 am.

Anyone else work from home?  Help!

Jakob no longer sucks!

Big news everyone!  We are so very proud of Jakob.  Today we held a ceremony graduating Jakob from sucking…  his fingers - of course!!  After trying EVERYTHING (tape, band-aids and even hot sauce on the fingers, pleading, begging and threatening, putting a sock on his hand…), one day Jakob just made up his mind to stop.

Understandably, Heidi and I were a bit skeptical, so Heidi gave him a challenge: Can he go 30 days without sucking.  Well, seemingly without effort… he did it.  I guess he just had to make up his mind.

Today, the 17 of May, 2009 marks the 30th day suck-free!!!

Here is the certificate he got:  Click on it to see it bigger and to be able to read it:

Congraduation!

Transformation

Well, the transformation of the blog is pretty much finished.  Can you check it for me?  Here are the things we changed.  Do they work in your browser?  Are there any bad links?  Does anything just look bad?

  • New Header Image
  • New Picture on the side
  • New video on the side
  • New Facebook links
  • Different font for titles and new colors
  • New shading for quotations.
  • New block for contact info on the side
I think that’s it.  Now I just need to write in it more often :)  One thing I did to help is to make the “write a new blog post” my home page so it’s the 1st thing I see when I go online.
I guess that’s it.  Just tell me the ‘Good, the Bad and the Ugly’.
Thanks!

Where are we?

Well, I have been playing with the blog (as you could tell), so I added something I’ve been wanting to ad for a while: our calendar.  This way, you will be able to know what we’re doing and how to pray for us.  We use google calendar for all of our scheduling, planning and organizing, so it will always be kept up to date.  So…

what kind of outreach is being organized on Sat the 30th?  You should come be a part!

what are we doing June 1st?  I hope you’ll be praying with us!

where will we be on July 9th, 2009?  I’m already dreaming about it…  And there’s even a map.

New Colors

This blog post is actually more of a test - what do you think of the new colors?
