“God made macaroni and salad.”

Today was the 1st day of the Kid’s Camp that we are having out in Niok-Wayalbin (don’t hurt yourself pronouncing that).  We have been preparing for a while, and it was a huge success!!  There were around 50 kids (most Muslim) from the community, and today they had a great time.

We started with games (red light, green light and ’sharks and minnows’), then a couple of songs (Panga Wennam), then a Bible lesson (God created the earth).  Funny story:

Joseph: “Who created the earth?”
Kids: “Wennam!” (God)
Joseph: “Who created animals?”
Kids: “Wennam!”
Joseph: “Who created the skies?”
Joel: “Blaise Campaore!” (The Burkina president)
Kids: “No!!!!  Wennam!”
Joseph: “What did God do on the 7th day?”
Joel: “Eat rice?”
Kids: “No!!”
One very cute little girl: “He made macaroni and salad!”

Well, at least most of the lesson came across :)

Then the kids made a very cute little craft (I personally despise crafts, so the ladies took care of that).

Then we presented one of our favorite skits “God doesn’t love me”.  I think there’s a video of it HERE.

Great morning!!  More tomorrow.

Tapioca pudding?

I am bored.  The adventure has lost its color and has become as bland as tapioca without sugar or milk.  A slop of white, transparent, shapeless goop.  If Heidi were here she would roll her eyes: “here we go again” and she would be RIGHT!  I have certain triggers, which shut me down every so often:

The Land flowing with milk and mangos

Ok, no milk - but about 50 mango trees are on the 5 acres that are being given to the elementary school.  It is really a very beautiful land!  Keep in mind as you watch that this was taken during the DRY season!

If you can’t see it - here is the link to the same video on Youtube - Milk and Mangos

School Grounds in Africa - La Vision

Joseph and I present to you the school AS IT IS TODAY.  We have the funds to begin building the school, we are just waiting for the land to belong legally to the school.  And waiting, and waiting…

More articles by 2nd graders

Jakob’s class wrote little articles that made up a little magazine for the parents.  The topic was “My hero.”  I posted Jakob’s in the last blog called “Brainwashing?” But these were pretty funny too if you like the random stuff kids say sometimes.  :)

Brainwashing?

I want to share this very special article that Jakob wrote in his school’s “Literary Magazine.” Jakob attends an international school here in the capital city, Ouagadougou, where there are just a few missionary kids but mostly kids from all over the world whose parents work at embassies, have come in for business or are with aide organizations. All the children in second grade were to write an article about their “hero.” One of the Christian mothers from the school was talking to us and said how impressed she was with Jakob’s article about God. We weren’t even aware that he had written something. She told us that she overheard another lady reading it and saying that it sounds like he’s being brainwashed.
